Strong Backdoors for Default Logic
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, we introduce a notion of backdoors to Reiter’s propositional default logic and study structural properties of it. Also we consider the problems of backdoor detection (parameterised by the solution size) as well as backdoor evaluation (parameterised by the size of the given backdoor), for various kinds of target classes (cnf, horn, krom, monotone, positive-unit). We show that backdoor detection is fixed-parameter tractable for the considered target classes, and backdoor evaluation is either fixed-parameter tractable, in para-∆P2 , or in para-NP, depending on the target class.

Strong Backdoors for Linear Temporal Logic
In the present paper we introduce the notion of strong backdoors into the field of temporal logic for the CNF-fragment of linear temporal logic introduced by Fisher. We study the parameterised complexity of the satisfiability problem parameterised by the size of the backdoor. We distinguish between backdoor detection and evaluation of backdoors into the fragments of horn and krom formulas. Here...
متن کاملEuropean Master in Computational Logic Master Thesis Backdoors for SAT
The concept of backdoor was introduced to try to explain the good performances achieved on real world SAT instances by solvers. A backdoor is a set of variables that, once decided, makes the rest of the problem simple (i.e. polynomial-time). In this thesis we provide a comprehensive overview on the state of the art of backdoors for SAT. Moreover, we study the relation between backdoors and para...
متن کاملBackdoor Treewidth for SAT
A strong backdoor in a CNF formula is a set of variables such that each possible instantiation of these variables moves the formula into a tractable class. The algorithmic problem of finding a strong backdoor has been the subject of intensive study, mostly within the parameterized complexity framework. Results to date focused primarily on backdoors of small size. In this paper we propose a new ...
متن کاملStrong Equivalence of Nonmonotonic Theories -- an Algebraic Approach
We show that the concept of strong equivalence of logic programs can be generalized to an abstract algebraic setting of operators on complete lattices. Our results imply characterizations of strong equivalence for several nonmonotonic logics including logic programming with aggregates, default logic and a version of autoepistemic logic.
متن کاملThe Modal Logic S4F, the Default Logic, and the Logic Here-and-There
The modal logic S4F provides an account for the default logic of Reiter, and several modal nonmonotonic logics of knowledge and belief. In this paper we focus on a fragment of the logic S4F concerned with modal formulas called modal defaults, and on sets of modal defaults — modal default theories. We present characterizations of S4F-expansions of modal default theories, and show that strong and...
